Workshop – Cooperation in Coastal and Marine Plastic Waste Manajement (Bali Partnership)
September 16, 2019On Friday, July 26, 2019, Mrs. Beate Dotterweich (Pertiwi-Consulting), Dr. Verena Streitferdt (Pertiwi-Consulting), and David (Business Partner) visited one of the Garbage Banks in Denpasar, the Koperasi Bank Sampah Sedhana Arsa, located on Jl. Tukad Balian No.133A, Renon, Denpasar Selatan District, Denpasar City. The activity aims to study and conduct an inspection of the Garbage Bank in Bali. There are 5 Garbage Banks operating in Bali. A garbage bank is a place that is used to collect (buy) certain waste (usually plastics, card box, used papers, cans, tires, etc) that has been sorted from the household and save the money to an account as a “bank” deposit. The owner of the deposits can take their money anytime they need it. The garbage that has been collected will be distributed to a certain place who making crafts from garbage or to the garbage collectors. The garbage collectors contact Sedhana Merta regularly every fourth night to buy their garbage. There are 7 people works at Sedhana Merta. Most of the sorted garbage will be transported to Surabaya for further processes. A handful amount will be crafted into handicraft and only a few items that cannot be recycled will be forwarded to a landfill (TPA).
