In June, Dr. Verena Streitferdt was hired by GIZ as a moderator in a two-day workshop on Energy Efficiency (EE) Policy and Financing in ASEAN organised by The ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP). This workshop was held virtually from 7th to 8th of July 2021 and more than 170 stakeholders from government, academia and private, participated in the workshop.
This workshop aimed to present EE financing policy and implementation in ASEAN and align stakeholders’ understanding of developing bankable EE projects. In addition, networking and matchmaking between various EE stakeholders was aimed for.
The overview of existing EE financing mechanisms reminded ASEAN member states to develop and implement effective EE financing policies and mechanisms. Also, a business matchmaking between EE project developers and financial institutions took place. Feedback was provided by the Asia-Pacific ESCO Industry Alliance (APEIA), The Southeast Asia Clean Energy Facility (SEACAF), Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Korean Development Bank (KDB).
Finally, the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) and Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA) delivered their perspectives about the importance of online web-based platforms to promote EE projects.
The moderation was well received and possibly further matchmaking events will be held.
